Miruvor Garden is the brainchild of my youngest child, Alexa. A die-hard fan of LOTR, she always said I reminded her of a hobbit. The criteria she employed was: Short. Thick soled feet (I hate shoes). “Tolkien depicted hobbits as fond of an unadventurous, bucolic and simple life of farming, eating, and socializing, although capable of defending their homes courageously if the need arises”. Duh. Unlike your basic hobbit, I am not a fan of smoked hallucinogenics (“pipeweed” according to Tolkien), but I DO thoroughly enjoy my wine. After doing a bit of digging, I learned that elves imbibe a cordial called Miruvor. It is both reviving and relaxing- two essential feelings I enjoy after a day digging in the dirt. I have officially adopted Miruvor as the namesake of this blog. I will share my thoughts about the simple pleasures in life, starting with gardening, but occasionally wandering into food and the creation of a welcoming home. I will try to rid my mind of the fact that hobbits often have big bellies- a quality that I share with these eccentric characters.
